CL4 SQL is a significant enhancement to the CL4 4GL and run time engine. A framework has been written to provide access
to CL4 databases through the Windows ODBC standard. It also supports OLE-DB and JDBC standards. JDBC is also supported under Linux.
It provides an ODBC/OLE-DB/JDBC client interface from Windows or Linux applications to a server on a Linux platform
which supports CL4 databases.
The ODBC/OLE-DB server adds a new dimension to development in CL4. Previously CL supported development for
terminal based systems and allowed access only to CL4 databases. Since Multibase entered the commercial Internet business in 1995, CL4 has evolved into a highly effective tool for the delivery of
database websites.
Today, through CL4 ODBC server, users can access host-based CL4 databases through a PC browser anywhere in the world. Development tools such as Delphi and Visual Studio InterDev can be used to build
applications that access CL4 databases in network server environments. In this way previous investments in CL4 are protected through new interoperability with other technologies.
