What is CL4?

Getting the pointCL4 is an integrated applications environment for UNIX that doesn't require UNIX expertise. It is a professional development tool to deliver high performance, complex applications without the traditional development overhead. And because it is developed in Australia, as a part of the CL4 developer community you can even be part of CL4’s future development.

Multibase CL4 features include:

  • an efficient, high volume, commercial oriented, relational database management system
  • a processor that runs procedures written in Multibase CL4's own 4GL language
  • a relational query processor
  • through CL4 SQL, access to CL4 databases from 3rd party tools and applications, and development tools and applications to access 3rd partly ODBC and OLE-DB compliant databases such as Oracle, Sybase and Informix
  • two different menu environments
  • a menu driven application development environment
  • the ability to automatically generate maintenance procedures to view and maintain database tables
  • various management utilities
  • a demonstration application that highlights many of the procedures that can be created
  • a complete security system
  • optional transaction logging and recovery
  • support of Chinese and Thai characters
  • CGI access to operate behind an apache webserver
  • a SOAP server to allow development of web services
  • Blowfish encryption for cutting edge security
  • Foreign language support
  • HTTPS encryption of the webservices using apache and OpenSSL
  • Soap package signing
  • Large database support

CL4 is distributed as server and developer environments.

  • Server (Runtime) CL4: Components to run applications developed in CL4 on a single server including the query processor and management utilities.
  • Developer CL4: Tools and utilities for the development of new applications including Server CL4

CL4 is built primarily in procedures developed in CL4. The source of these procedures is provided with Developer CL4.
